MANUEL SCHWEIZER IN BRIEF
Manuel Schweizer is a classical pianist — but not exclusively — who has performed in more than 25 countries across all continents.
He had the privilege of studying with Éric Heidsieck at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon (CNSM).
He is the author of two books celebrating his life and work as a pianist, each written in a very different style:
Disconcerting Concerts, or The Surprises of a Traveling Pianist — published by Éditions Globophile — is a collection of stories from his concert tours around the world. Emotion, suspense and humor punctuate the chapters, unfolding through a prelude, seven fugues in foreign lands, and a Lyon-based, (almost) pornographic coda.
Piano, Gesture, Sound — published by the University Press of Dijon — is a treatise on piano interpretation and technique, addressing both body and mind. An interactive work and a documented synthesis of an entire teaching career — Manuel Schweizer is a piano professor at the Lyon Conservatory — it presents original and innovative approaches to piano playing. It methodically analyzes every aspect of piano technique and the various parameters of interpretation.
By avoiding tedious, repetitive exercises, this book offers simple and effective solutions to pianists who question their own practice and want to play with greater ease and freedom.
